Hardcore backpacking boots take an agile step forward with the St. Elias GORE-TEX® Although it's our lightest backpacking boot, the St. Elias is built to bomb. To begin, we combined traditional comfort and support with a cutting edge, weight-optimized sole. And then we got creative: the midsole incorporates a soft EVA bed which allows the sole to conform precisely to the irregularities of the trail. The result? Ridiculous traction and a feel (both out of the box and out on the trail), that's unlike anything that's come before.
The sole of the St. Elias GORE-TEX® is made from a Vibram XSTrek compound that balances slip-resistance for a secure grip with high abrasion resistance for durability, and feature a toe-off bad for traction and durability, and a 90° heel breast to deliver secure downhill stopping power. Combination lugs with a 90° edge deliver uphill and downhill traction, inset spikes in the combo logs promote mud release, and lugs with dimples help release debris. Concentrated lugs in the heel strike pad help increase traction and durability.
Fit Profile: The St. Elias GORE-TEX® is built on the Summit last, a combination last that uses the Arc Tempo's medium volume heel (designed to fit a wide range of shapes) with a straighter forepart. This last provides a positive heel lock pocket, excellent arch support, and rockered toe for less walking fatigue in stiffer boot. The GORE-TEX® membrane ensures that feet stay dry.
