Probably the hardest beat to nail down. There's even a question as to whether this is even utilized in all or even most movies yet knowing the theme of your movie, being able to distill the central argument into a few words, isn't just for the audience. Knowing your theme can help to flesh out the B story. If you need to add a scene or sequence to your movie without worrying that it will end up on the cutting room floor make sure it illustrates the central theme.
