BEATSHEET

Notes: If you didn't already recognize this movie as a 2011 "Quantum Leap" then Jake Gyllenhall's "oh boy" moment in the bathroom mirror and Scott Bakula's voice cameo as Colter's father should erase all doubt
Title: Source Code
Genre: Whydunit (Fantasy)
Year: 2011
Runtime: 93 minutes
Author: Karimah Boston
Movie Database:
Screenplay: Ben Ripley
Log Line: A marine finds himself on board a commuter train doomed to blew up and with only 8 minutes to find out who did it

(TBD) Opening Image: Captain Steven Colter wakes with a start on board a Chicago commuter train with no idea how he got there
(TBD) Theme Stated: "I don't know what's going on" he tells fellow passenger Christina Warren
(TBD) Setup: Colter sees another man’s face in the mirror. Who is he? How did Colter get on this train? Why can’t anyone explain what’s going on?
(TBD) Catalyst: There is an explosion and then Colter wakes in a cockpit simulator
(TBD) Debate: Can Colter find the bomber? Can he save the passengers? Can he do it before the next bomb detonates? Will anyone explain how or why he signed up for this assignment?
(TBD) Break Into Two: Colter accepts being on the train as a military simulation that he needs to resolve to complete his mission
(TBD) B Story: Colter kisses Christina to convince her to get off the train with him. He begins to believe he can change the past despite Dr. Rutledge’s protests to the contrary
(TBD) Fun and Games: To Christina's surprise the man she knows as Sam Fentress can predict the future, the spilled coffee, popped soda can and conductor's request for the ticket.
(TBD) Midpoint: Colter learns he was killed in Iraq two months ago
(TBD) Bad Guys Close In: Time is running out. Rutledge and Colter argue again about what can and cannot be done inside of source code. Colter demands to be disconnected from life support once he identifies the bomber. Rutledge agrees vowing to find someone else willing to take Colter’s place
(TBD) All Is Lost: Colter identifies the bomber but Christina is killed in the process
(TBD) Dark Night of the Soul: Colter realizes Rutledge has no intention of ending his life support. He begs Goodwin, soldier to soldier, to let him enter the source code one last time then end his life support
(TBD) Break into Three: With a new attitude, Colter disarms the bomb, apprehends the bomber and kisses Christina
(TBD) Finale: To Colter's surprise, life continues on after the 8 minutes in source code ends. He and Christina ditch work to spend the day together. To Goodwin's surprise, she receives a message from Colter informing her that they stopped a terrorist attack in an alternate universe
(TBD) Final Image: Goodwin looks down at the body of Steven Colter, kept alive by life support in this universe as Colter says in a voiceover "everything will be alright" echoing Goodwin's words to him earlier
